This Vision is an artistic prayer vigil for living the common dream of solidarity and mutual understanding through exploration and celebration of our diversity.
Why prayer you might wonder?
To me prayer is an art... It can be dance, song, painting, sculpture, making an altar, organizing an event,
mandalas, and rongoli, anything... Every action we take as humans to me in an act of prayer.
One of the most compelling questions I ever had for a Hindu friend of mine was, "why do you have to cover your nose with your ring finger and breathe through one nostril while you ring a bell with your other hand"? It opened me up in that moment to realizing that those actions look so different in many ways but, the underlying purpose and reasons are almost always understandable and similar to the techniques used by other traditions. The Hawaiian Nose Flute is one such example! Their use of sacred breath is uncannily similar.
So what is this going to look like?
Representatives from different traditions and religious organizations will come and share their form of prayer, as well as artists, dancers, and ritual expressionists. It will be staggered so you will have time to visit and witness each ambassador’s unique and interesting style of prayer. Come grab a cup of tea and let your heart lead you around the church exploring the offerings of love and service that each ambassador brings. When a representative is not in active prayer they can answer questions and engage with everyone who comes.
One of my personal views is that honest innocent inquiry births connection, it can weave hearts together: if we dance with listening and sharing our commonality...
I invite you to come and explore, to open and wonder, to witness and share, and have a cup of hot tea!!
